Mohamed Diame’s contract with Newcastle United will expire at the end of the season, and the midfielder has told The Chronicle that he is playing for his future at the club.
Indeed, Diame – a 2016 arrival from Hull City – will earn a new deal if he reaches a certain number of appearances this season.
The 31-year-old has featured in all 17 of Newcastle’s Premier League matches this season, and is currently one of the first names on Rafael Benitez’s team sheet.
There would certainly be no shortage of takers if Diame became available at the end of the season, but it does seem likely that he will earn a new deal at St James’ Park.
The Newcastle fans have been on social media offering their views on the midfielder’s future at the club, but not everyone is in agreement.
Indeed, whilst some want Diame to sign a new deal, others have doubted whether the midfielder is actually good enough.
