Newcastle have been linked with a move for Red Bull Salzburg attacking midfielder Valon Berisha, but fans don’t seem too optimistic about it.

It’s no secret that Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle have been short of goals, and now the Chronicle are reporting that a creative midfielder will be the priority this summer.

Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame have formed a fantastic partnership in midfield, and Benitez has vastly improved the Newcastle defence, but the side must create more chances if they want to not just escape relegation but also make a push up the table next season.

Mikel Merino has been mentioned as a possible option to play the number ten role, a position he often occupies for Spain’s youth teams. According to the Chronicle though, Benitez will look for a new number ten elsewhere, with Salzburg’s Berisha as the main target.

Fans are getting more and more fed up with owner Mike Ashley and the uncertainty surrounding Benitez’s future, and they’re all saying the same thing about reports that a number ten will be the priority – that Benitez himself should be the priority this summer.
