Newcastle fell to a disappointing home defeat at St James’ Park today as Manchester City completed the double over the Magpies in the Premier League this season. Alan Pardew’s men had an utterly terrible start to the match, falling 2-0 behind within five minutes after early goals from Gareth Barry and Carlos Teevz, leaving Newcastle with a mountain to climb.
Newcastle didn’t give up and had plenty of possession and shots as the match looked to be fizzling out in the second half. Yet another Andy Carroll goal brought them right back into the match and Kevin Nolan had a great chance to level but he poked wide from close range. Carlos Tevez then put the game beyond doubt with his second goal of the match via a huge deflection off the again-available Fabricio Coloccini to make the score 3-1 and that was how the match finished, with Pardew tasting defeat for the first time as Newcastle manager.
So what five things did we learn about Newcastle today?
